Hidden throughout the Barossa, a patchwork of tiny, old and much loved vineyards shyly bear bunches of exquisite Shiraz. The best of this fruit, from vines that are among the oldest in the world, is carefully selected with one wine in mind – Yalumba The Octavius Old Vine Shiraz, a wine that has established a reputation as one of Australia's iconic Shiraz.

A very deep red in colour. Vibrant aromas of dark cherries, aniseed and licorice, distinctive and seductive with exotic spices and espresso coffee. The dark berry fruit palate is rich and powerful, yet gently evolving, with a classy restrained elegance, displaying silky raspberry, damson plum and sweet blackberry fruits. A wonderfully balanced wine with beautiful tannins. Double decant and enjoy alongside classic steak and kidney pie or lentil, sweet potato and chickpea stew.

"This vintage of one of Yalumba’s most premium wines is back up to the level of the 2013. It’s a rich and heady combo of dark chocolate, brambly berries, licorice and earthy herbs. Tannins are integrated neatly within a silky texture of pure, tangy fruit and vibrant acidity. It’s so likable now, it may not age as long as other Shiraz in this price point, but should still progress well for another decade or so."

Scents of cedar, vanilla, menthol and mocha join dark berries on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is pliant yet structured. Imagine how a barrel contains liquid? That's the impression The Octavius makes on the palate, its fruit power and breadth contained by wood, channeled into a long, velvety finish."
