Notes From the Winemaker:
This Cabernet Sauvignon depicts the scarecrow, our "guardians of abundance", who keep a watchful eye over our ripening grapes and our community during the biennial Barossa Vintage Festival.

The lead up to vintage 2013 was perfect for quality fruit across all varieties. The summer months were warm with some rain events; these rains helped give the vines a great start and allowed them to access sub-soil moisture into summer. The vines from which Yalumba Y Series Cabernet Sauvignon fruit is sourced were strong and healthy, producing grapes with focused flavour and excellent quality and structure.

The grapes were fermented in static and rotary fermenters. Warm temperatures at the onset of fermentation and also three to five days post ferment maceration has helped extract soft fleshy tannins and build wine structure.

Tasting Notes:
Color: Deep crimson.
Aroma: The Y Series Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 expresses the varietal punch of cassis coupled with cassis briar, the aromas are vibrant and enticing.
Palate: This wine always shows true flavors of Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2013 does not disappoint. Blackcurrants and blueberries are the primary fruits; the palate has mouth coating tannins that are perceptible yet not dominating. The line and length of this wine is generous yet shows true Cabernet style of structure and control.
Enjoy with: A rich oxtail stew and mash.

Ratings & Reviews

Best Buy - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"This isn't the biggest, baddest Cabernet. Instead, it's more of a charmer—lithe and crisp. Cherries and dried herbs on the nose add hints of earth and pepper on the palate, then finish with a gentle wash of dusty tannins. Drink now–2018." - Joe Czerwinski (4/1/2016)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Y Series opens with notes of fresh black currants, blueberries and plums with menthol, cinnamon toast and pencil lead nuances. Medium-bodied, it’s not shy on the structure with a solid backbone of medium to firm grainy tannins and refreshing acid supporting the taut, muscular fruit, finishing with good length. Drink it now to 2019." - Lisa Perrotti-Brown (Aug 2014)

Stephen Tanzer:
"Deep ruby. Ripe cherry and blueberry scents, along with notes of mocha, licorice and black pepper. Spicy, focused dark fruit flavors betray some heat and pick up a smoky quality with air. Finishes with good cut, dusty tannins and lingering spiciness." - Josh Raynolds (July 2014)

Wine Spectator Magazine:
"Firm in texture, with black olive and floral overtones to the medium-weight core of blackberry, licorice and spice, pushing into the finish with intensity. Drink now through 2018. 1,800 cases imported." – HS (Aug 31, 2015)
