Notes From the Winemaker:
The Barossa Shiraz 2018 is a deep, dark, purple red in colour. This is a generously aromatic wine with ripe plums, anise, lavender, currants and dark chocolate with complex notes of savoury spices. On the palate purple fruits, liquorice and violets are followed by pepper and spice. This is a full bodied, generously flavoured classic Barossa Shiraz.
Treatment:
Aged for 12 months in in 26% new French, American and Hungarian hogsheads, barriques & octaves. Balance in older octaves, hogsheads and barriques
Ratings & Reviews
92 Points - Decanter Magazine:
"Named after Yalumba founder Samuel Smith, Shiraz grapes come from diverse Barossa vineyards aged between 10 to more than 35 years old. The goal is accessibility, with a strong varietal and regional accent – and it hits the back of the net. Very Barossa, with generous Black Forest gateaux-like cherry and mocha oak (26% new French, American and Hungarian hogsheads, barriques and octaves), juicy blackberry and plum fruit and meaty, peppery undertones. (Drink between 2020-2026)" - Sarah Ahmed (Nov 2020)
93 Points - James Suckling:
"A rich, blackberry and raspberry nose. Softly supple palate with a fresh and vivid core of ripe raspberry, red-plum and blackberry flavors. Nicely rounded out, with some good concentration. Drink now." - (Sept 2021)
90 Points - Wine Spectator:
Dense, dark and fleshy, featuring notes of black licorice, iodine, blackberry, blueberry and black tea, with a thread of minerality and herbal accents that gain intensity on the finish. Drink now. 15,000 cases made, 2,500 cases imported. - MaryAnn Worobiec (Oct 2022)
