Notes from the Winemaker:
Made from 100% Nebbiolo from the Brunate vineyard. The vines are planted at a density of 1,620 per acre and the grapes are harvested in late September. The wine is aged in a combination of 1/3 new and 2/3 used French oak barriques for two years, and it is refined for one year in tank before being bottled.
Concentrated and intensely ruby red in color, this superlative Barolo offers complex aromas of super-ripe red currants, raspberries, and cedar beautifully integrated with mineral notes, mushrooms, mocha liqueur, smoke, eucalyptus, and pepper on the nose.
Ratings & Reviews
97 Points - James Suckling:
"Fabulous aromas of strawberries, walnuts, cedar and flowers. Complex and captivating. Full body, fine yet chewy tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Needs time to soften but a superb wine. Much better than the 2010. Better after 2018." - (October 19, 2015)
96+ Points - Antonio Galloni:
"The 2011 Barolo Brunate is one of the most tannic and vertical wines in the range, both attributes it has shown every time I tasted it prior to bottling. A powerful, brooding Barolo, the Brunate hits the palate with notable density and structure. Today, the flavors are understandably quite primary, but that just bodes well for the future. Voerzio's Brunate is one of the most impressive wines of the year." - Antonio Galloni (November 2014)
