Notes from the Winemaker:

Val di Suga’s estate is located on 300 acres of which 125 are under vine. Vigna del Lago, located in the north represent its three diverse production areas.

Tasting Notes:
Color: Light garnet with ruby/orange reflections.
Bouquet: Notes of cherry, violets and candied fruit.
Taste: Full-bodied yet elegant and soft with velvety tannins, it is an authentic example of Brunello.

Serving Suggestions: Perfect pairing for soups, foul and young cheeses.

Vinification:

Due to its cool climate this is the very last area to be harvested in all of Brunello di Montalcino. Fermentation is carried out in the traditional method of Montalcino with tempatures reaching as high as 86°F in the final stages. After fermentation is completed the marc is left to macerate on the wine for approximately 15 - 30 days softening the tannins. The wine is aged in 30/50/60 hl casks for 30 months.

Grape Varieties: 100% Sangiovese Grosso.

"Bright deep red; darker than the other two single-vineyard Brunellos from Val di Suga. Knockout nose combines redcurrant, black cherry, flint and licorice aromas, complicated by an intense floral quality. The palate offers an uncanny combination of sweetness and penetrating power, with brisk acidity nicely framing and lifting the fine-grained flavors of dark red fruits, mint and fresh spices. At once energetic and refined, with a very long, slowly mounting finish conveying an impression of purity and precision. This is likely to enjoy a graceful evolution in bottle, in contrast to most 2009 Brunellos. Vigna del Lago is a vineyard located in Montalcino's cooler northern reaches; it's my favorite 2009 Brunello from Val di Suga but it will likely appeal more to more experienced Brunello drinkers with traditional tastes." - Ian D'Agata (July 2014)

"The delightful 2009 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna del Lago shows warm cherry and blackberry aromas backed by softer tones of leather, tobacco and spice. The nice thing about this wine is that the red fruit really is in center stage. Although there are no lakes that I know of in the Montalcino appellation, the vineyard designation refers to "lakeside vineyard" fruit. Balsam herb, dried ginger and rosemary add exciting accents to the overall bouquet. This is a very attractive Brunello with a steady and long approach." - Monica Larner (Feb 2015)
