About the Winery:
Located in the north of Montalcino, Tuscany, Valdicava wine estate produces some of the highest quality wines in the world by showing different expressions of the opulent Sangiovese grape. The warming sensation from the nearby Tirrean Sea, the protective barrier of the “Monte Amiata”, the cooling breezes of surrounding wooded forests along with moderate rain fall facilitate the particularly unique growth of the Valdicava grapes.
The Brunello-focused estate has given their absolute attention to the vines to produce a great balance of body and aroma, making every bottle a treasured collectible. The hard work and attention to the details in the terroir is evident for the consumers of any Valdicava, now and for years to come.
Ratings & Reviews
93 Points - James Suckling:
"Lots of mushroom and balsamic aromas to this with sour cherry. Black licorice, too. It’s full-bodied with round tannins with juicy fruit. Some bark and dry earth. Rather chewy. A pleasant old wine that shows mature Brunello character. Drink now." (23 Dec. 2020)
The 2003 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Madonna del Piano is a super-ripe, opulent wine that resembles the 1997 in its generous, full-bodied personality. The tannins are surprisingly well-balanced within the context of this challenging vintage. The 2003 should drink well relatively early for this Riserva. All things considered, this is a superb effort. Production was down sharply in 2003. The estate bottled just 13,000 bottles of this wine compared to the typical 23,000 bottles. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2023.
