Notes from the Winemaker:
Cuvée Juveniles was created as a ‘Cote Du Rhone’ inspired bistro wine from the classic Barossa varieties of Grenache, Mataro (Mourvedre) and Shiraz from mostly old, unirrigated vineyards.  These varieties are the cornerstone of the Barossa Valley and are intrinsic in the wines that are so easily appreciated around the world and often referred to as GSM blends by sommeliers and consumers alike.

44% Grenache
36% Mataro (Mourvedre)
6% Shiraz
8% Counoise
6% Carignan

~Multiple vineyards ranging up to 150 year Old Vines in Sub-Regions:
Lyndoch, Gomersal, Seppeltsfield, Marananga, Greenock

~Harvested between March 6th – April 3rd 2020.

~Matured in a combination of stainless steel and large format French oak foudre.

~Alcohol by volume 14.5% - pH 3.51 - Acidity 5.51g/L

Vintage:
Strong winds at flowering at the beginning of the growing season reduced berry and bunch count in many vineyards.  The difficult seasonal conditions continued up to harvest: a dry winter and spring were followed by very hot and dry December and January.  2020 was a difficult season to manage for both grower and winemaker with yields much lower than anticipated.  Older vineyards with deeper roots remained steadfast under these conditions and produced small volumes of deeply concentrated wines from the lower yields.  While the yields have been small, the overall quality has created deeply coloured and textured wines that resonate their place of origin.

Tasting Notes:
Crimson and bright cherry hues Red cherry and pomegranate aromas balanced by Chinese five spice and meaty notes. Medium bodied with a lithe and plush mouthfeel.
A perennial favourite, Grenache from old vines shows it ability to exhibit lifted florals, red juicy fruit characters such as wild cherry, raspberry and pomegranate.  The palate has delicious texture and long acidity balancing a freshness from savoury Mataro and bolder Shiraz components.  Serve with an array of cuisines including spicy dishes at or below 16 degrees Celsius.  Drink now or cellar for up to 8 years.
Ratings and Reviews

92 Points - Wine Spectator:
"This has a lovely creaminess to the raspberry, cherry and kirsch notes at the core, with aromatic details of cinnamon, violet, green tea, date nut bread and salted butterscotch. Harmonious and seamless on the long finish. Grenache, Mataro, Counoise, Shiraz and Carignan. Drink now."

91 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"Aromas of mint, olive brine, plum and raspberry open after some brief aeration. The palate is medium bodied, by Barossa standards, and demonstrates restraint. There’s a briny, spiced tannin profile and sandpaper texture neatly pinning the juicy, plum fruit. Lower alcohol and more vibrancy would be nice for a “juveniles” style, but it’s a tasty tipple nonetheless."
