About the Whisky:
Only 3,000 bottles of this single malt, which was matured for a quarter century, have ever been produced.
Situated along the banks of Cromarty Firth in the Highlands region of Scotland, Dalmore Distillery was founded in 1839 by Alexander Matheson, who had earned his fortune illegally importing opium from the Far East. In 1886, Matheson sold Dalmore Distillery to Clan MacKenzie, whose century-long stewardship and defining influence over the distillery is still evident today — the 12-point stag adorned on every bottle of Dalmore Distillery Whisky is derived from Clan MacKenzie's coat of arms.
Following distillation, Dalmore Distillery 25 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is matured in five unique types of casks. First, the whisky is rested in American white oak barrels. After its initial maturation, a portion of the whisky is matured in 25 year-old Palomino Fino sherry butts while the remainder is matured in first-fill bourbon casks. Then, the fractionated whiskies are married together in bourbon barrels before being finally finished in Tawny Port pipes from Portugal.
As a result of this journey, the whisky has been "gifted a wonderful palate of orange peel, chocolate truffles and spiced gingerbread," says Richard Paterson, Dalmore Distillery's master distiller. "Dalmore Distillery 25 is a truly spectacular addition to Dalmore Distillery Principal Collection, and a must have for fans of the distillery."
Aroma of creamy vanilla, marzipan, orange zest and Christmas cake. Notes of rich citrus, peach, mango, orange are complemented by touches of milk chocolate, cloves, ginger and oil. Finish is long and complex, with a touch of tobacco, dates and orange.
95 Points - Intl Wine & Spirits Competition 2021
"A masterclass in malt-making, this deep-coloured, well-made, fruity, aromatic single malt whisky has traces of treacle, coconut and toffee on the palate. Subtle coffee undertones with a hint of sherry result in a sustained, enjoyable finish."
Gold - Intl Spirits Challenge 2021
"Dalmore 25 year old comprises spirit matured initially in American oak casks, some of which is then transferred into first-fill bourbon barrels, while the remainder goes into Palomino fino sherry butts. The two batches are then reunited in bourbon barrels before a final finishing in tawny port pipes. Vanilla, figs, toffee, and ripe oranges on the festive nose, while the palate features more orange, peaches, milk chocolate, and sherry. The chocolate darkens in the lengthy finish, with ginger and licorice." - Whisky Advocate
