In 1982, his son Don Talley, planted wine grapes on a rolling hillside parcel unsuitable for vegetable farming. Four years later, in 1986, he and his wife Rosemary founded Talley Vineyards.

About the Wine:
Grown in the cool-climate soils of Oliver’s Vineyard in the Edna Valley, Grüner Veltliner, known as the “green wine of Veltlin”—thrives on the SLO Coast. It also happens to be one of Johnine Talley’s favorite grapes, which inspired her husband, Brian, to plant it in 2018.

We call this wine sunshine in a bottle for a reason—its bright character and refreshing finish make it one of the easiest wines to love.

2025 marked the second vintage in a row with cooler than average weather and below average yields, though production was better than the historically meager 2024 harvest. Rainfall was similar to the 2024 season with 15 inches or about 75% of the long term average in our part of the San Luis Obispo Coast region. Harvest at Talley Vineyards began August 25 and concluded November 6 for a total of 73 days, which was 8 days longer than 2024 and indicative of the consistently cool season. The resulting wines are balanced and juicy.

It pairs well with a variety of foods, including spicy Thai and just about all of the vegetables we grow at Talley Farms.

Tasting Notes:
Aromas of cantaloupe, gardenias, and kiwi lead to flavors of mandarin, salt, lime and peach. The finish is juicy and energetic. Try this wine with Thai green curry or Sage Derby cheese.
