Awards/Reviews:
"A very light and floral nose. Jasmine, hibiscus, some orange and scented candles. Fruit oranges and plums on the palate. Some bees wax. And more plums. I've never picked up plums in a whisky as much as I have with this Hibiki. Finish is reasonably long, more fruit, some bolied sweets and bonfire toffee and has the barest, barest whispering of smoke. A beautifully balanced whisky and still the best Japanese whisky I've ever tasted." - Connosr.com
"Nicely balanced between supple grain notes and dessert-like characteristics on the nose, including sherried nuts, honeycomb, and nougat. The body plays up both sides of this equation nicely. The cereal side is well-aged, mellow, and slightly racy, while the oak-driven side offers deep almond and hazelnut notes and a lightly sweet, whipped cream finish that ties it all together like a nice ice cream sundae. Could be a touch punchier, but overall it’s a great way to end an evening." - Drinkhacker (Grade: A-)
9/10 - Malt Review
"Huge, dense, round and rich nose. Stewed pear, apple pie, acetone, paprika, cinnamon, lemongrass. There’s also the distinct Mizunara influence of jasmine, five spice, and sandalwood incense, which to me is one of the main attractions of Japanese whisky. The palate starts lightly woody, becoming intensely floral at midpalate, with the concentrated flavor of rose petals. This finishes with more spicy Mizunara notes, broadening out into a roasty chocolate-mocha flavor, with some nutty accents of unsalted cashews. Of the four Hibiki age statement bottlings (12, 17, 21 and 30 years old), this 17 most successfully highlights the unique flavor profile of Mizunara oak. Delicious."
