About this winery:

Siro Pacenti bought his estate and planted his first vines in 1970, all of which still thrive today. The property is north of Montalcino, in Pelagrilli, and overlooks Siena with 22 hectares of Sangiovese in fresh, clay soils. In 1988, Giancarlo Pacenti took over operations at the winery, producing the first Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino that same year. His two vineyards lie in two very different areas of Montalcino: one to the northeast of the town, where the wines develop full, ripe qualities; and one to the hotter southwest area near Sant’Angelo in Colle, which produces a more powerful, minerally wine. Here's what Vinous Media's Antonio Galloni had to say about this winery:

"Giancarlo Pacenti is one of the few producers who blends wines from the northern and southern zones in Montalcino for most of his wines, which is one reason he is so consistent from year to year. Eric Boissenot, one of Bordeaux's top wine minds, is the consultant. As always, the Pacenti Brunellos are distinguished by their sleek, modern contours."

Since the 1995 vintage, Giancarlo Pacenti's Brunello has annually won Gambero Rosso's most prestigious Tre Bicchieri (Three Glass) award. These are quintessential Sangioveses that are wonderfully aromatic, opulently rich and powerfully structured. Giancarlo is considered to be one of the top Brunello pruducers. The Rosso, often considered the epitome of a "baby-Brunello", is ripe yet elegant, displaying notes of red currant and velvety tannins.

The greatest care goes into the production of Siro Pacenti Rosso di Montalcino. The grapes used for the Rosso di Montalcino come from vines between 15 and 25 years old. Average annual production is around 30,000 bottles.

“Pale red; this wine’s very pretty color strikes me as being one of the less dark Rossos made by Pacenti in years. Inviting floral notes (rose, violet) complement strawberry, red cherry and delicate flint and herb aromas. Then very fresh and juicy, with a steely quality to the red fruit and herb flavors that are really perked up by a strong peppery component on the long, lively youthfully chewy finish. Made from 15 years old Sangiovese vines, this is a really lovely fruit-forward and also surprisingly spicy Rosso di Montalcino. 25% new oak for 12 -3 months." - Ian D'Agata (Apr 2020)
