About the winery:
This Cistercian monastic estate, is one of the oldest wineries in the Austrian Danube area with a documented history that dates back to 1171. All the vineyards are located on slopes and terraces around the valley of the river Kamp near the town of Langenlois and the village of Gobelsburg. Schloss Gobelsburg specialises in Grüner Veltliner and Riesling and produces authentic and noble wines from different single vineyard, village and regional appellations. The winery is member of the association 'Österreichische Traditionsweingüter', which is working on a vineyard classification project for the Danube area.

About the vineyard:
The wines of Ried Renner present themselves in a radiant yellow-gold color and open with a bright, intense and elegant, remarkably refined and distinctive bouquet and a precise balance of a rich and complex (also texturally) mouthfeel. Juicy fruit , spicy notes and a refreshing vitality are finely knit together and harbour a long, intense and persistent finish that reveals fine tannins and characteristic salinity. It is a natural companion to traditional austrian cuisine, such as pork or veal roasts and deep fried fare from stables or gardens.

About the soil:

Ratings & Reviews

94 Points - Vinous Media:
" The 2021 Gruner Veltliner Ried Renner, picked in a site of alluvial deposits mixed with loess, opens with a tone of honey, denoting an extra year of age. The palate, however, is fluid freshness, scented around the edges with gentle pepper alongside softer notions of chervil, yarrow. The yeasty aspect on the mid-palate is bright, light and lemony. This is a picture of freshness and harmony, where ripe stone fruit makes another appearance just before the smooth, serene finish—a picture of equanimity and understated harmony, with a lemon aftertaste. (Bone-dry) (Drink between 2025-2045)" - Anne Krebiehl MW (Feb 2024)

94 Points - James Suckling:
" This has a fragrant nose of apple blossom, melon rind, manuka honey and a hint of redcurrant. Concentrated and flavorful, with a full body and deliciously ripe and fleshy fruit riding on textured and lightly grainy layers. Drink or hold."  - (Jul 2023)
