About this Wine:
San Filippo is situated in the splendid area of Northern Montalcino, close to the famed Biondi Santi's Il Greppo and La Serena vineyards. The wines of San Filippo are age-worthy and elegant, though very approachable in their youth. The estate totals 22 hectares, 11 of which are under vine, dedicated mostly to Sangiovese, with a small olive grove as well. Founded in 1972 (1977 marked the release of their first Brunello), the estate was recently purchased by Roberto Giannelli who restored and renovated the entire facility. With the help of Paolo Caciorgna, Roberto is producing only 1250 cases of Brunello and the same quantity of his single vineyard "Le Lucere", both aged in Slavonian and Allier oak casks.

Ratings & Reviews

96 Points - James Suckling:
"Subtle and complete aromas of cherry, flowers, and orange peel. Full body, round and velvety tannins. So pretty and refined. Polished. A gorgeous wine. Drink or hold." (Nov 2017)

95 Points - Wine Spectator:
"As much savory as fruity, this offers a fine balance between cherry, leather, spice and carob aromas and flavors. Rich yet lively, leaving a mouthwatering impression on the long, saline aftertaste. Best from 2020 through 2035. 1,000 cases made, 400 cases imported." – BS (Jun 2018)

94+ Points - Vinous Media:
"Bright red. Perfumed aromas and flavors of pink flowers, sour red cherry and strawberry. Fresh and juicy but also dense and deep, this boasts captivating sugar-acid-tannin balance. Finishes long and perfumed; despite its sneaky concentration and size, it also has a light-on-its-feet quality that is very typical of this wine." - Ian D'Agata (Apr 2018)
