About the winery:
Round Pond has been growing premium wine grapes since the early 1980s. Cultivated with meticulous care, their grapes have been sold to several of the most preeminent wineries in the region. Using a small selection of extraordinary grapes from their vineyard's 350 planted acres, Round Pond has established an acclaimed estate wine program focusing on world-class Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc produced in extremely limited quantities.
Notes from the Winemaker:
Our flagship Estate Cabernet Sauvignon bursts from the glass with alluring aromas of ripe black-berry, bright cherry and minerality reflective of our infamous 'Rutherford Dust.' Creamy, rich, and generous, this wine shows essences of plum and cocoa which marry well with hints of green peppercorn, licorice and tarragon. Elegant and supple, this wine illustrates refined tannins and a pleasing granite-like finish reflecting the diverse flavors found on our Rutherford estate vine-yards. This Cabernet Sauvignon is ready to be enjoyed now and will age gracefully over time.
A true reflection of that signature Rutherford dust, this Cabernet Sauvignon embodies an old world meets new world style. The Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon is hand crafted entirely from our Rutherford Estate, sourcing from the top 5% off the property. Exhibiting rich characteristics of dark complex fruits, minerality and balanced intensity, the layers of this wine truly reflect our vineyards terroir.
Varietals: 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petit Verdot, 7% Malbec, 4% Merlot
Aging: 20 months in 70% new tight-grain French oak
Ratings & Reviews
"The 2017 Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon is bold, rich and super-expressive, all while retaining the classic sense of mid-weight structure that is typical of the Round Pond Cabernets. Hints of tobacco, cedar, mint, dried flowers and leather add aromatic nuance to a core of sweet red-toned fruit. There is a bit of edginess to the tannin, but then again, that is 2017. All things considered, this is a fine effort for the year. Sadly, production is down about 50%."- Antonio Galloni (Jan 2020)
