About the Winery:
RAEN Winery was founded in 2013 by Carlo & Dante Mondavi, the two sons of Tim Mondavi. After working with their father in building Continuum, they decided to go off on their own and venture out to the West Sonoma Coast to make cool climate Pinot Noir that can stand on its own on the world stage.

About the Vineyard:
Our 4.8 Sea Field Vineyard (monopole) produces our most elegant wines year in and year out. This unique bottling comes from an ancient Sea Field of diverse marine soils and fractured bedrock dating back between 66 and 200 million years. Soaring 1,000 feet above the Pacific Ocean and less than 3 miles from its waters, Sea Field is both our most coastal and highest elevation pinot noir site. The combination of these elements creates Sea Field.

About the Wine:

Delicate, lifted aromas of rose petals, orange pith, crushed pomegranate and raspberries, with the essence of where-the-forest-meets-the-ocean fill the bowl. Wild strawberries, cool-coastal forest, wet rock, sea moss and blood orange linger. On the palate, wild strawberries, faint violet flowers and distant notes of white tea lead to a seemingly endless finish.

100% Whole cluster • natively fermented • bottled without fining or filtration

Ratings & Reviews:

99 Points - James Suckling:
This has great tension between the bold, dramatic fruit and mineral flavors and the chalky, firm and brightly crisp texture. Laced with layers of red and black cherries and vivid raspberries, with strawberries in the finish. All backed by nervy acidity and moderate tannins for a sense of tension and linearity.

98 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:

Pouring a bright ruby color, the 2023 Pinot Noir Sea Field, comes from way out close to the coast just beyond Hirsch. It’s the most elegant of the reds, leading with notes of pomegranate, roses, dried earth, and spiced orange. The palate offers a medium-bodied frame, and it has fine-grained tannins, mouthwatering acidity, and a long, graceful finish. It’s only going to improve with time, but it sure is delightful now. Drink 2025-2045.

94 Points - Vinous:
The 2023 Pinot Noir Sea Field is a powerful, intensely mineral wine. Iron, gravel, red-toned fruit and rose petal are all finely sculpted. Salivating acids and a spine of searing tannins give the Sea Field its shape and insistent, driving personality. Bright saline notes extend the nuanced, bracing finish. This nervy Pinot needs time in bottle to be at its most expressive.
