About the Winery:
In the Santa Lucia Mountains west of Paso Robles is a gem cut from the rough of the coastal forest, ascending into the skyline with pyramidal grace. This is DAOU Mountain, in the Adelaida District.

Patrimony is rooted in the mountain's unmatched alchemy of soil, aspect and climate, and realized through meticulous vinification of our most noble vineyard rows. The phenolics produced here are known to be among the highest in the world, fostering an immensity of color, depth and structure that is only enhanced by the rigorous viticulture required to make Patrimony.

Patrimony fruit undergoes state-of-the-art optical sorting to ensure absolute flavor integrity. Fermentation proceeds exclusively with wild yeasts cultured from DAOU Mountain, imbuing the wine with native texture and character. The wine is made entirely from free-run juice. Maturation unfolds for 30 months in rare French oak barrels prized for their fine grain and distinctive elegance. Only after further aging in the bottle for one year do all of these aspects coalesce into complete symmetry. The result is a most pure expression of the Cabernet Sauvignon grape —abundantly layered, extravagant in depth, and intricately poised to the end.

Tasting Notes

The 2017 Patrimony Cabernet Sauvignon is nothing short of a blockbuster. This is an uber-concentrated wine that offers explosive aromas of lilac, hibiscus, thyme and dark chocolate. Intense qualities of ripe blackberries, black currant and blueberries accompany a beautiful harmony of flavors that begin with a impressive entry and linger for several minutes. Full-bodied and silky in texture, this wine displays immense elegance backed by a wonderful minerality, all while remaining fresh and vibrant. Ratings & Reviews

99 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"Deep purple-colored, the tiny production 2017 Patrimony Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 30 months in new French. This rocking wine has a huge nose of deep black fruits, new leather, unsmoked tobacco, exotic spices, and chocolate. Full-bodied and stunningly concentrated, with awesome tannins, a stacked mid-palate, and just a gorgeous finish, it's a magical wine and an incredible 2017. Bravo!" (9/1/2020)

99 Points - Tasting Panel:
"Creamy, silky, and intense, this startlingly inky-black liquid exudes aromas of tilled soil, leather, soy sauce, and black plum. Tannins coat the tongue with coffee-chocolate grit that’s smoothed out by ripe blackberry and
heather. Dense and sturdy, the body remains ethereal, saturating
the palate with anise, dark chocolate, and espresso. Aged for 30
months in the finest French oak barrels." -MM (Jul/Aug 2021)

97 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2017 Patrimony is a lavish Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon, packed to the gills with texture and flavor. It is made of 100% Cabernet aged 30 months in 100% new French oak. The nose offers pure scents of chocolate-covered cherries, rosewater and purple flowers with touches of cedar, pencil shavings and cast iron. The palate is powerful but ultra classy, with pixelated tannins, lush fruitcake-laced, ripe flavors with good freshness and a long finish." - Erin Brooks (10/30/2020)

97 Points - Vinous Media:

"Dark, bright-rimmed purple. Powerful, highly expressive scents of cherry liqueur, cassis, fruitcake, vanilla and rose oil; pipe tobacco and smoky oak nuances add complexity. Deeply concentrated, oak-spiced dark berry preserve, cherry pie and mocha flavors stain the palate, and an undercurrent of juicy acidity conveys an impressively energetic quality. Plush, densely packed and extremely young, finishing with powerful, spicy thrust, youthfully chewy tannins and striking persistence." - Josh Raynolds (12/2020)

95 Points - James Suckling:
"Lovely, deep fruit with blackberry, chocolate and hazelnut. Plenty of firmness and length. Full-bodied and flavorful. Creamy-textured finish. Drink or hold." (4/21/2021)
