About This Wine:

Enrico Scavino’s experience, recognized the quality of this undiscovered beautiful cru and decided to purchase it in 2001. By luck this cru was the only one of the estate untouched by the hail in 2002 and debuted as a solo showing lots of personality and potential even in such a difficult year.

Bricco Ambrogio has an intense and multifaceted aromatic spectrum. The core is soft and polished through a beautiful acid-tannic balance. There is an underlying depth in this Barolo and the finish is long and nuanced.

Ratings & Reviews

93 Points - Stephen Tanzers International Wine Cellar:
"Medium red. Captivating aromas of redcurrant, spicecake, menthol, spices and tobacco, plus an element of dried fruits I did not find in the Carobric. Then surprisingly high-pitched and mineral-driven in the mouth, boasting a very suave fine-grained texture and penetrating, pure red fruit flavors enlivened by harmonious acidity. Finishes with very smooth, palate-dusting tannins and excellent length. A very successful vintage for this bottling." - Stephen Tanzer (Nov/Dec 2013)

93 Points - James Suckling:
"This is intense and fruity with dried flowers, hints of cedar and hazelnuts. Full body, with pretty fruit and a polished tannin texture. Very pretty finish. Hard not to drink this now. But better in 2015." (July 8, 2013)

92 Points - Vinous Media:
"Scavino's 2009 Barolo Bricco Ambrogio is impressive in this vintage. It boasts gorgeous depth and richness, not to mention fabulous overall balance. Freshly cut roses, spices, licorice and juicy dark red berries all burst from the glass. There is an understated intensity in the Bricco Ambrogio that is compelling. It will be interesting to see how the 2009 develops over the coming years. Today, the future appears bright. Stylistically, the Bricco Ambrogio is one of the more direct, frank wines in the range." (May 2013)

91 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Sweet cherry, plum, rose and licorice flavors highlight this elegant red. The tannins provide support, balanced by bright acidity and fruit. Fine length. Best from 2016 through 2028. 350 cases imported." - BS (Feb 28, 2014)

91 Points - Wine Enthuisiast:
"This fragrant Barolo has lovely floral and underbrush aromas and a restrained palate showing cherry and spice. It’s tightly tannic and very nervous, needing more time to soften up." - KO (9/1/2013)
