About This Wine:
92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
Familia Nin-Ortiz 2009 Planetes de Nin is sourced from a contiguous 11 acre parcel all planted on llicorella and farmed biodynamically. The wine is made up of 70% Garnacha and 30% Carignan aged in foudre. It is purple in color with an intriguing nose of dates and figs (reminiscent of a Fig Newton) as well as mineral, lavender, and black cherry. On the palate it reveals an elegant, racy personality with enough structure to evolve for 1-2 years. It is approachable now and will continue to provide pleasure through 2021. (May 2011)
92 Points- Antonio Galloni's Vinous Media (2008 vintage):
"High-pitched, exotic aromas of raspberry preserves, dried violet, incense and licorice combine with a serious undertone of smoky minerality and Asian spices. Sweet and precise, with lively red and dark berry flavors and notes of star anise and cinnamon and a silky texture. Blends depth, power and energy deftly and finishes on a seductive spicy note, with excellent, mineral-driven persistence." - Josh Raynold (Nov. 2010)
After obtaining degrees in both oeneology and biology at the University of Barcelona, Ester Nin began her career overseeing wine projects across Spain. Raised in the Penedes, she found a somewhat familiar home in the Priorat where she became the viticulturalist at Clos i Terrasses supervising the transition to biodynamics. Falling in love with the rugged slopes, rocky soils and ancient vines of the region, she bought a tiny parcel of old vines on the steepest hillside slopes above the village of Porrera in Mas d'En Cacador. In 2004 she released her first vintage of Nit de Nin and over the successive years in the Priorat she has expanded her estate, reclaiming some long-abandoned terraces, added some additional wines, including Planetes de Nin, gotten married and had a child. It is safe to say that while Ester will continue to be sought for her insights all around Spain she firmly rooted in the soils of her adopted home. Ester is a patient, thoughtful person who is more comfortable in a vineyard than a tasting room. She spends most of the spring and summer tending her vines, pruning and treating them as individuals with unique needs. The elegant, restrained nature of her wines show their careful upbringing and her meticulous vineyard work.
