About the Distillery:

Carefully crafted and cask-perfected at The GlenAllachie Distillery in Speyside, our peated single malt serves up a sweet smoke style impeccably balanced with the heather honey character of our distillate.

Guided by revered Master Distiller, Billy Walker, our team is on a ‘Meikle Tòir’ (meaning ‘big pursuit’). The goal: To carefully craft and cask-perfect a peerless peated single malt at our Speyside home, The GlenAllachie Distillery.

About the Whisky:

Taking the ‘heart of the heart’ of our distillate – the spirit cut which contains the highest phenol content – ‘The Turbo’ entails an amplified smoky identity.

The 2023 Release is a combination of three American virgin oak casks and five Oloroso hogsheads. The result is a multi-faceted whisky with a powerful punch of peat.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Manuka honey, worn leather and chocolate, with toasted hazelnuts, sultanas and burnt orange peel.

Taste: Intense peat, honey and mocha, followed by smoked spices, roasted chestnuts and charred oak.

92 Points - Whisky Advocate

"Delicious, punchy, and complex, The Turbo is made from malt peated to 71 ppm and the spirit is cut from the still when the vapors have the highest phenol content. The nose is redolent of crème caramel, thick smoke, candied chestnut, fruit teas, worn leather, forest honey, and smoked orange peel. Baked orange, cough syrup, and currants reach the taste buds with blooms of peat smoke, Horlicks, milk chocolate, roasted spices, and vanilla latte."

"This is strikingly presented as a rich, dark brownish amber in glass with solid legs and distinct viscosity. Peat and honey are thick on the nose, leading the way for other aromatics of toffee pudding, creme brulee, vanilla sugar, and smoked meat. This really opens up on the palate, bringing smoke, sweet and spice in a delightful way. The notes here include rich chocolate, marshmallow, the slightest hint of black pepper, dried cherries, and black currant. The finish is long and delectable, with the higher ppm really carrying the smoky notes into my throat in a way that lingers long after my glass is dried. This is really a delightful dram, and my favorite of the ones from this brand I’ve reviewed so far. The higher ppm really makes the difference here in combination with the Oloroso casks." - The Whisky Wash
