About this wine:
From Southern Burgundy, the Maurice Martin estate was founded in 1969 and Domaine Maurice Martin was established in 1974. Maurice is the father of Richard and Stéphane Martin of Domaine de la Croix Senaillet.
The label today is an exact replica of the label used by Maurice Martin when he began selling bottled wine (instead of selling everything to the négoce). Now under the direction of Richard and Stephanie, Maurice Martin's philosophy still shows through the wines: affordable, clean, fresh, aromatic and true to the soils and weather found in the Maconnais region. According to Robert Parker, "These wines represent solid values in Chardonnay from this popular sector of the Maconnais region."
The grapes for this wine come from two famous areas of the Maconnais region - Vergisson and Solutré - famous for their rocks and thus the minerality coming from these rocky soils. The wine displays fruity and floral aromas intertwined with vanilla and toasty notes. Harmonious, well balanced and elegant wine.
Ratings & Reviews
89+ Points - Vinous (2016 vintage):
"(made from vineyards in Vergisson and Solutré): Bright gold-tinged yellow. Broader and riper on the nose than the 2016 Mâcon-Villages and Saint-Véran bottlings, with an element of toasty oak complementing aromas of yellow peach, mirabelle, acacia flower and menthol. Silky, plush and broad but not heavy, with stone fruit and spice flavors still a bit youthfully aggressive and in need of another year in bottle to settle down. There's a sweetness here that's not shown by the other '16s from this producer, but it's nicely leavened by strong salty minerality. Finishes dry and persistent, with salty and spicy notes. I would not be surprised if this wine merited 90 points by next summer. " Stephen Tanzer - (Nov 2017)
