Notes from the Winemaker:

Our small vineyard is located on the summit of Spring Mountain. Here the terrain is steep and rocky, in some places heavily forested and still wonderfully wild. An occasional bear leaves his foot prints - just to let us know... It is a challenging place to farm but worthwhile. At two thousand feet, we are above the morning fog which often shrouds the lowlands. These heights are blessed with plentiful sunshine and warm nights as the heat rises from the valley below. The volcanic soil together with the abundance of heat make this a unique spot for the cultivation of grapes, which, under the guidance of John and Alex Kongsgaard are transformed into this full-bodied cabernet.

The 2012 Growing Season
Nature bestowed on us almost textbook conditions for this vintage. Ideal weather persisted from bud break to bloom, to fruitset and through veraison. Mild and warm temperatures allowed the crop ample time to reach full maturity and 'hang time' for optimal flavor development. Good weather lasted through harvest and the grapes arrived at the crushpad in excellent condition.

The Wine
95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot fermenteded on their own native yeast. Gentle cap management for optimal extraction. Aged for 22 months in 50% new French Oak. Remained unfined and unfiltered. Stayed in bottle for 2 years before release. Estate grown.

Tasting Notes
The 2012 Cabernet is supple, open and of elegant stature. Mineral notes underscore the exhuberant lush and juicy blackberry fruit aromas with a hint of underbrush, spice, and cigar. Fresh acidity complement the sweet tannins and form good structure. This is a Cabernet to drink around the warmth of a crackling fire, as well as on a summer night under the stars ...or simply share it around a table with your friends and a wonderful meal.

Ratings & Reviews

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon from high on Spring Mountain was aged in 50% new French oak for 20 months prior to be bottled unfined and unfiltered. The wine is lovely and elegant, with sweet black and red currants as well as hints of underbrush and raspberries. It seems forward but evolved, and is best drunk over the next 8-10 years." - RP (Dec 24th, 2015)
