About this winery:
In 1995, Vittorio Frescobaldi of Italy's venerable Marchesi de' Frescobaldi joined forces with Napa Valley icon Robert Mondavi to produce a Tuscan red called Luce della Vite. The grapes came from vineyards in Montalcino, adjacent to the Frescobaldis' Castelgiocondo estate. Luce was the first wine from Montalcino made by blending Sangiovese and Merlot grapes, matching the roundness and softness of Merlot with the elegance and structure of Sangiovese.
Lucente is the second wine of Luce, a wine with contemporary style, immediate and great pleasure, and like its elder sibling, an authentic interpretation of Montalcino and the Luce estateBlend: Merlot, Sangiovese
Aging Barriques: 85% new, part re-used wooden barriques
Maturation: 12 months
Ratings & Reviews
91 Points - Vinous:
"The 2018 La Vite Lucente is bright, fresh and wonderfully perfumed. Sweet dark cherry, plum, mocha, lavender and wild flowers all run through this gracious, mid-weight red. Fresh and nuanced, the 2018 is a big departure from the wines of a few years ago. The purity of the fruit here is striking." - A.G.
91 Points - Decanter:
"Bright cherry red with touches of sour cherry on the attack, opening up to raspberry and blackberry. High acidity makes it naturally mouthwatering and sappy with a smoky balance on the finish. This is enjoyable and unfussy, begging for food. Certified organic since 2015."
90 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Reserved, this red holds black cherry, plum, herb and iron flavors close, with dusty tannins putting a lock on the finish. Has depth, with the fruit elements lingering on the finish. Merlot and Sangiovese." -BS (7/2021)
