About the winery
The Dr. Loosen Estate has been in the same family for over 200 years. With ungrafted vines averaging 50 years old, some of the best vineyard sites in Germany (four rated grand cru and two premier cru by both the 1868 German classification and the more current Wine Atlas of Germany), Ernst Loosen has the raw materials for stunningly intense, world-class wines. With crop yields almost half of what is permitted by law, only moderate use of organic fertilizers, and old-fashioned cellar practices, Loosen strives to create wines that unmistakably say "Riesling, Mosel, and Dr. Loosen."

Notes from the Winemaker:
This classic Mosel Kabinett is harvested from higher-elevation parcels owned by Dr. Loosen in the villages of Bernkastel, Graach and Wehlen. The wine is bright and pure with the vibrant white peach fruit and a floral, flinty minerality that is so typical from blue slate. A plush attack on the mid-palate leads to a deliciously firm, delicate finish. This wine makes an elegant aperitif and is an excellent match for seafood, spicy Asian cuisine and lighter dishes.

Grape Variety: 100% Riesling
Soil Type: Blue Devonian slate
Alcohol: 8.5%
Residual Sweetness: 40.6 grams/liter
Total Acidity: 8.5 grams/liter

Ratings & Reviews

90 Points - Vinous Media:
"I can’t recall Loosen’s high-volume, very diversely sourced generic Kabinett ever having impressed me much... until this vintage! Classic Riesling scents and juicy palate presence of apple and white peach are deftly supported by moderate sweetness and complemented by tangy and piquant accents as well as appropriately underlain with wet stone. The finish is luscious, bright and almost irresistibly demanding of the next sip, as well as featuring savory hints of burley tobacco and sweet-saline, iodine-tinged raw scallop." - David Schildknecht (Nov 2020)

90 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"Zaps of lemon-lime acidity and spicy, smoky earth tones elevate this bright citrusy Riesling. Off dry in style, it offers tart, tangy lemon and white-grapefruit flavors edged by a honeyed sweetness. The finish is brisk and invigorating. Enjoy now through 2024." - AI (4/1/2020)
