About the winery
The Dr. Loosen Estate has been in the same family for over 200 years. With ungrafted vines averaging 50 years old, some of the best vineyard sites in Germany (four rated grand cru and two premier cru by both the 1868 German classification and the more current Wine Atlas of Germany), Ernst Loosen has the raw materials for stunningly intense, world-class wines. With crop yields almost half of what is permitted by law, only moderate use of organic fertilizers, and old-fashioned cellar practices, Loosen strives to create wines that unmistakably say "Riesling, Mosel, and Dr. Loosen."

Notes from the Winemaker:
A delicately crisp, low-alcohol Riesling from the top-rated single-vineyard site that surrounds the Dr. Loosen estate.

Bernkasteler Lay is a Grosse Lage (grand cru) vineyard situated directly along the Mosel between the village of Bernkastel and the Dr. Loosen estate house. The rocky blue slate soil here produces richly textured, assertive wines. Kabinett is the German designation for the lightest, most delicate style of Riesling, produced from barely ripe grapes picked early in the harvest

Alcohol: 8.5% | Residual Sweetness: 47.6 grams/liter | Total Acidity: 8.4 grams/liter

Ratings & Reviews

92 Points - James Suckling:
"Cool and crisp with tons of apple, cassis and mint character and a wonderful light touch. Stunningly refreshing! Drink or hold. Screw cap." (14 Aug, 2020)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2019 Bernkasteler Lay Riesling Kabinett is clear and precise on the flinty and floral nose. Pretty round and juicy on the palate, this is a quite sweet, lush and charming Kabinett with young, fresh and crisp acidity. Tasted at the domain in September 2020." - Stephan Reinhardt (Oct 2020)
