Notes from the Winemaker:
Lingua Franca Estate Chardonnay is a permanent addition to our wine portfolio. Its aroma is a combination of creamy lemon custard, grapefruit zest, jasmine and vanilla. While it has the richest aroma and texture of all our Chardonnays, it is still lively and bright, lifted by its underlying energy; an excellent expression of our vineyard.
Lingua Franca Estate Chardonnay is sourced exclusively from our home LS vineyard that expresses a distinctively mineral quality in our Chardonnay wines. The Chardonnay blocks are located on the stoniest soils we have sitting over bedrock of 150 feet of red basalt. Half of our original vineyard Chardonnay is planted from CH548 cuttings taken from the fabled Montrachet vineyard in Burgundy, and the remainder is planted to the trusted Chardonnay clone 76.
Ratings & Reviews95 Points - Vinous Media:
"Vivid straw-gold. Mineral-driven nectarine, orange, honey, iodine and white flowers on the intensely perfumed nose. Smooth, fleshy and dry in the mouth, offering juicy orchard and pit fruit flavors complemented by suggestions of fennel, sweet butter, smoky minerals and candied lemon peel. Shows excellent depth as well as energy and finishes minerally, dry and impressively long, with resonating floral and orchard fruit notes." -Josh Raynolds (Sep 2020)
93 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"Harmonious and silky in texture, with layered apple, lemon blossom and crushed stone accents that dance on a long, vibrant finish. Drink now through 2021. 365 cases made." - TF (2/29/20)
92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2017 Chardonnay Estate opens with pretty notes of chamomile, elderflower, fresh quince and red apple skin with notions of pie crust, crushed hazelnuts and honeyed peaches. The palate is light to medium-bodied and lightly rounded with pretty, honey-nut accents and juicy acidity to counter, finishing long and fresh. This is classic Oregon with that juxtaposition of mineral and savory character." - EB (23rd Apr 2020)
91 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"From vines grown in shallow volcanic soils, this lightly ripened wine cuts a concise path through the palate. With strong elements of mineral, lime, citrus rind and a saline note, it's a wine with verve and definition. The focused green-apple fruit carries just the lightest suggestion of barrel toast." - PG (12/1/2019)
