What happens when a steep, rock-laden vineyard, yielding highly-concentrated, flavorful grapes in a normal year, meets its third year of record-breaking drought? Throughout Napa Valley, winemakers are thrilled with the high quality of vintage 2013, and at Lindstrom the perfect season made for an even more expressive, concentrated, flavorful rendition of this Stags Leap District Cabernet. In the aromas, the ripe cassis and blackberry jumps from the glass, supported by tones of cherry cordial, a hint of pipe tobacco, some light floral tones and a deep bass tone of dark-toasted French oak. On the palate, the “Velvet glove” of Stags Leap District is certainly there, but softly wound around a firm, very structural core. The finishing tannins are present but not overbearing…even as a young, fruit-driven impression, the wine is surprisingly approachable.

This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon was produced entirely from fruit grown on the Lindstrom estate in Stags Leap District, Napa Valley. The eleven blocks of vineyard were assessed individually for ripeness, and were harvested by hand between September 16 and October 2, 2013. The fruit was gently de-stemmed, then fermented in small tanks. After 14 to 22 days the wine was drawn from the tanks, then transferred to small barrels (80% new French oak) for about 19 months of barrel age. The Cabernet was blended in August 2014, returned to barrels, then racked to bottles in May of 2015.
