Notes from the Winemaker:

Classically Stags Leap District in character, this fully ripe Cabernet shows bright cherry and mocha tones in abundance on the aromas. Open and expressive immediately upon pulling the cork, this wine will develop more nuanced dark tones of sandalwood, almond and warm raspberries with time in the glass.

On the palate, the wine is bright with fresh fruit flavors. Fine-grained tannins create a sense of elegance and finesse at entry and throughout the palate profile. The finish is again bright with essence of red fruits, combined with just a touch of toasty oak.

Harvested between October 8 and 19, 2012, entirely by hand from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes grown on the Lindstrom Estate Vineyard in Stags Leap District, Napa Valley, this wine was created by selecting small blocks from the vineyard to vinify as individual lots.

The wine was fermented on skins for about 4 weeks, transferred to French oak barrels and aged for about 12 months, then blended and returned to barrels for an additional 8 months. The wine was bottled without fining or filtration in May, 2014. - Tasting notes by Celia Welch

Approximately 760 cases were produced.

Ratings & Reviews

93 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"There’s a lot to like here, from the initial drive of earth- and graphite-laced blueberry, cassis and dried berry flavors to the touches of cedary oak and crushed rock minerality. A long version, with gripping tannins. Drink now through 2027." — J.L. (Aug. 26, 2015)

92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:

"The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon offers attractive sweet cassis and tobacco leaf aromas intermixed with notions of licorice and loamy soil. Sexy, medium to full-bodied, opulent and pure, it can be drunk now or cellared for another 15-20 years.

Well-respected consultant Celia Welch provides her expertise at this 20-acre hilltop vineyard in Stags Leap. Unfortunately, these are limited production cuvées of around 500 cases each. This wine comes from a 300-350 foot elevation vineyard on rocky, steep hillsides planted with Cabernet Clone 337 and Clone 4." - Robert M. Parker, Jr. (Oct 2014)

91+ Points - Antonio Galloni:

"Lindstrom's 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District is a powerful, intense wine. Scorched earth, smoke, tobacco, licorice and plums are all laced together nicely in this soft, plush Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon. Dark spices, menthol and leather add nuance on the finish. There may be just a little too much new oak for the wine's mid-weight structure, but then again, the 2012 was just bottled." - Antonio Galloni (October 2014)

93 Points - Antonio Galloni's Vinous (2011 Vintage):
"Lindstrom's 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon is laced with the dark blue and purple fruit that is so typical of the appellation. Violets, cloves and mint, all supported by slightly firm tannins, appear later. With time in the glass, the 2011 opens up nicely. Here, too, Celia Welch has done a fabulous job softening the contours of the vintage. Sweet floral and spiced notes leave a lasting impression on the finish. The 2011 is beautiful." -Antonio Galloni (November 2013)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2011 Vintage):
"Lindstrom's 20-acre hilltop parcel in the Stags Leap region has produced a typical 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon revealing lots of new oak (perhaps more than the fruit permits), red and black currants and hints of underbrush and cedar. Medium-bodied, spicy and smoky, it should be consumed over the next 5-8 years." -Robert Parker (Oct 2013)

93 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine (2010 vintage):
"Builds intensity and depth, with the mix of dark berry, mocha, dried herb and fresh earth flavors gaining nuance and length, gliding along on the finish. Best from 2014 through 2024." - J.L. (Aug 7, 2013, Insider)

90+ Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (2010 vintage):
"Good deep medium ruby. Brooding aromas of black cherry, licorice, mocha, menthol and tobacco. Densely packed but tightly wound, hinting at dark fruits and mint. In a distinctly muscular, almost tough, style for Stags Leap cabernet, but has a solid kernel of fruit and plenty of energy. Made by consulting enologist Celia Welch from a steep, rocky vineyard, this wine is currently dominated by its structure." - Stephen Tanzer (May/Jun 13)
