Notes from the Winemaker:

To develop this Extra Age (X.A) Blanc de Blancs, Maison Lanson selected Chardonnay grapes from Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards (Avize, Cramant, Oiry, Oger, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger) and blended three great vintages: 2003, 2004 and 2005.

Blended then aged for a minimum of 5 years in our cellars, Extra Age Blanc de Blancs is a harmonious wine which presents a light gold robe brought to life by a long-lasting ribbon of tiny bubbles. The years of maturing in cellars developed fresh aromas of white flowers which evoke hawthorn and lime blossom, providing an airy feel. In the mouth, the attack is soft, opening into notes of summer pear, white peach and fine pastry. The finish is precise, ending with a mineral freshness.

Extra Age Blanc de Blancs is perfect for an aperitif; served with gougeres for example. Its delicate freshness opens the appetite, and it is a perfect accompaniment for a sea urchin cream or a few prawns. It will make a fine companion for a scallop carpaccio or grilled sea bream.

Ratings & Reviews

93 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"With five years bottle aging, this is a wine that shows great balance, along with a blossoming maturity. The wine is dry with brisk acidity, intense minerality and a taut profile, but rich and concentrated with apple flavor. It’s likely to age for several more years." - Roger Voss (12/1/2013)

92 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Subtle and elegant, with a fine, lacy bead and a lightly yeasty overtone to the mesh of poached apple, kumquat, marzipan and crystallized honey notes. Smoke-tinged finish. Disgorged January 2012. Drink now through 2018. 2,500 cases made." – AN (Mar 31, 2014)
