Winegrowing Information:
In 2018 Northern experienced a dry winter. In May, after bud break, we received 6 inches of rain. Fast forward to the summer solstice in late June and we saw our first of many 100 degree days. The late rain combined with the heat created lush, fruitful vines. The heat calmed down after veraison and we had slow ripening and prolonged hang time which allowed the classic Kamen flavors to explode. All in all a terrific vintage!

Tasting Notes

Phenomenal concentration! A core of ripe black-raspberries, wild blackberries, black currants and freshly picked cherries anchor the aromatic profile. Bright notes of freshly picked wildflowers followed by hints of sunbaked rocks after the rain, marzipan, Oolong tea, black cardamom and milk chocolate add tremendous depth and complexity. The flavors follow suit and are richly layered, exquisitely balanced and refined. This deliciously seamless wine offers ripe, mouthwatering tannins and a lengthy finish. Enjoy now and over its decades long evolution.

Ratings and Reviews

94 Points - Vinous:
"A gorgeous wine, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is also one of the most elegant wines I have ever tasted from Kamen. It expresses all of the natural intensity of this site, but with a bit less extraction than in the past. which is not a bad thing at all. Blackberry jam, gravel, lavender, chocolate and crushed rocks flesh out in a sensual, wonderfully inviting Cabernet that hits all the right notes. The 2018 could benefit from a few years in bottle, but it is absolutely stellar today." - Antonio Galloni (Jan 2022)

93 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Offers alluring warm plum sauce and crushed açaí berry aromas and flavors that move through this with focus despite the rather lush feel. Subtle alder and sage accents line the finish, with a nice underpinning of iron. Distinctive in feel and profile. Drink now through 2030. 2,750 cases made." — JM (Aug 31, 2021)
