About the Winery:
Pristine Rieslings from the steep slopes on the Mosel. The renowned winery belonged to the Christoffel family for 400 years until Hans-Leo Christoffel looked for a
successor in 2001 and handed over the winery to Robert Eymael. After his retirement, Hans-Leo passed on his deep knowledge of Riesling winemaking to the next generation. Robert was determined to maintain the Christoffel style of wine. Controlled spontaneous fermentation in used Fuder barrels and no chemical additives are the keys to teasing out the final finesse from the podium and the spice garden. This is the old way of making Riesling wines, which to this day are unique in the world for their clear fruit, elegance and longevity.

Notes from the Winemaker:
Winemaker: Philippe Conzen
Vintage: 2022, a hot and dry year that put forward charming Riesling wines with a mild acidity
Site: Lower parts of the Ürziger Würzgarten, foothills of the vineyard with humus rich soil, average vine age 80 years

Philippe's Notes: hand-picked in the second week of October, immediate pressing, 50% of must fermented with indigenous yeast under cool conditions, 50% fermented with selective yeast, 4 months on the fine lees, bottled in April 2023

  • FARMING: ORGANIC, SUSTAINABLE
  • BLEND: 100% RIESLING
  • ALCOHOL: 12%
  • HARVESTED: MID-OCTOBER
  • METHOD: HAND HARVESTED
  • FINE LEES CONTACT: 4 MONTHS
  • YEASTS: INDIGENOUS

Tasting Notes:
Aromas of yellow pear, grapefruit zest and a hint of smoked coconut. The wine is driven by melon and pear on the almost powerful palate, has a round, and pleasantly bitter finish. A perfect introduction to the legendary Würzgarten vineyard.
