About the winery:

Winery owner Salvatore Ferragamo, heir of the storied Ferragamo fashion empire, replanted the family's Il Borro vineyard in 1999 and has been releasing Tuscan wines ever since. The winery has been certified organic since 2015.

Notes from the Winemaker:
"Il Borro" has a deep violet color, with purplish reflections. The bouquet is full and intense, concentrated, with notes of underbrush and with spicy scents. The taste is dry, with good body and soft tannins, a good consistency, well integrated and persistent.

Grape varieties:
50% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah, 5% Petit Verdot

Characteristics:
Alcohol 14%, total acidity 5 g/l, dry extract 28,3 g/l, ph 3,5

Ideal with:
All the Tuscan dishes cooked with meat, Tuscan croutons, aged cheeses, cold cuts, pasta and main courses with games. Il Borro wine pairs perfectly with hare, wild boar, chianina and cinta senese meat and also asiatic dishes and Us hamburger.

Ratings & Reviews

95 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2013 Il Borro is a delicious wine that I have tasted several times over the past few months. It presents seamless aromatic integration with luscious dark fruit, proportioned doses of spice, tobacco and sweet blackberry flavors. This wine offers velvety softness and plumpness over a richly extracted mouthfeel and sweet oak tannins. The slightly cooler 2013 vintage reveals very long persistence with pretty nuances of moist earth, rum cake and cherry liqueur. This is a landmark wine from the Il Borro estate in Tuscany." - Monica Larner (31st May 2017)

94 Points - James Suckling:
"Gorgeous aromas of blueberry, walnut, coffee and sage follow through to a full body, fine tannins and a polished finish. A serious red with depth and finesse. Better in 2019." (July 20, 2016)

90 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"This dense, powerful red, which starts out with plenty of oak spice and resin elements surrounding a core of plum, cherry, tobacco and iron flavors, is still oaky now, needing time to absorb the spice and resinous notes. Firm, dry finish. Better than previously reviewed. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Petit Verdot. Best from 2018 through 2028. 4,000 cases made." - BS (Web Only - 2016)

90 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"Made with 50% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah and 5% Petit Verdot, this has subdued aromas suggesting underbrush, clove, dark-skinned berry and French oak. The smooth vibrant palate delivers red currant, unripe cherry, mocha and dried sage alongside fine-grained tannins. An orange zest note closes the finish." - Kerin O'Keefe (3/1/2017)
