About the winery:

Winery owner Salvatore Ferragamo, heir of the storied Ferragamo fashion empire, replanted the family's Il Borro vineyard in 1999 and has been releasing Tuscan wines ever since. The winery has been certified organic since 2015.

Notes from the Winemaker:

Petruna Anfora is produced from 100% Sangiovese grapes using only clay amphorae for making and storing the wine. The vineyard from which this wine is produced, Casa al Coltro, has a density of 4.500 plants per hectare and it is located at approximately 350 meters above sea level. The soil is Schistose with an optimal drainage capacity.
Petruna Anfora has a deep ruby-red color. It has an intense, complex bouquet with notes of ripe red fruits and distinctive aromas deriving from the aging in terracotta amphora. It has a full-bodied flavor and well balanced tannins with a good acidity.
Petruna Anfora pairs perfectly with all the Tuscan dishes cooked with meat, but also with bread or legumes soups. It can also be served with aged or blue cheeses.

Ratings & Reviews

95 Points - James Suckling:
"Fantastic aromas of crushed berry and walnut follow through to a full body, soft and silky tannins and a savory finish. Gorgeous finish. One year on the skins in Tuscan ceramic amphora 450 liters. 3,000 bottles." (Apr 2017)

92 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Graphite, cherry, leather and underbrush aromas and flavors come into play in this supple, expressive red. Elegant, showing a more delicate side of Sangiovese. Drink now through 2024. 170 cases made." - BS (Sept 2017)
