Notes from the Winemaker:
Winery owner Salvatore Ferragamo, heir of the storied Ferragamo fashion empire, replanted the family's Il Borro vineyard in 1999 and has been releasing Tuscan wines ever since. The winery has been certified organic since 2015.
Bolle di Borro is a classic rosé made with 100% Sangiovese grapes ripened for 60 months on yeasts. To produce this wine the company chose a specific Sangiovese vineyard because of its cool location, strong day-night temperature variations and slow maturation, bound to assure the product’s fresh aromas, balanced acidity and low sugar content.
The Bolle di Borro is onion-skin pink, a lively and brilliant old rosé with fine, persistent perlage denoting its long stay on the lees and its great quality. Direct, linear nose, a fresh, crisp fruitiness, small red berries blend with notes of candied citrus peel. Dry and full bodied on the palate.
To best savor Bolle di Borro, we suggest sipping it out of ample glasses at a temperature of about 10/12 degrees. It pairs perfectly with Tuscan cheeses, beef tartares and codfish with onions.
Ratings & Reviews
92 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"Here's a gorgeous sparkler made with Sangiovese that offers enticing scents of blue flower, perfumed berry, vineyard dust and a note of baking spice. The creamy, silky palate doles out juicy red cherry, crushed strawberry, McIntosh apple, tangerine zest and a cinnamon note alongside an ultrafine perlage. Watch out—this goes down beautifully!" KERIN O’KEEFE (12/1/2016)
91 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The Il Borro estate is new to sparkling wine production, but the Ferragamo family has produced a very interesting result. The 2011 Bolle di Borro Metodo Classico Brut is a Rosé sparkler made with Sangiovese. The wine opens to a pale pink color and exhibits aromas of white cherry and wild berry. There are thicker aromas of toasted bread with lively pink grapefruit on the close. The wine ages on the lees for 48 months and was disgorged in March 2016." - Monica Larner (May 2017)
90 Points - Vinous Media:
"Orange-pink. Pungent orange jam, tangerine peel and quinine on the nose. Then fresh, saline and juicy, with apple jelly, pear nectar and botanical herb flavors on the tactile, long finish. Boasts very good size and texture, and leaves an almost meaty, very savory impression." - Ian D'Agata (May 2017)
