Sourced from older-vine blocks at Hyde Vineyard, the 30-plus-year-old vines produce a wine of character and concentration. This wine is aged in French oak (20 percent new) for 12 months, followed by three months in stainless steel and an additional 14 months of bottle maturation. Two selections of mature Hyde Chardonnay vines build its frame: the small clusters of Wente bring out notes of citrus blossoms, yellow apple, and a touch of gunpowder while enhancing the complex mineral and savory characters. The Calera selection contributes balance, with fresh aromas of pear, peach blossom, citrus, and vibrant acidity.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAll fruit coming off of the Hyde vineyard on the eastern edge of Los Carneros where the vines are exposed to winds channeled through the Petaluma Gap allow a prolonged growing season. The vines about 27 - 39 years old and grow upon beds of shallow loam over clay hardpan. The wine sees full malolactic fermentation and ages for 11 months in French oak, of which 20% is new.
