Notes from the Winemaker:

Our Far Coast Vineyard is a cool site surrounded by redwood forests and located almost two hours north of the Russian River on a Sonoma Coast mountain ridge. It is an area that some call the ‘True Sonoma Coast.’ Others would simply describe the distant vineyard site as ‘the middle of nowhere.’ Far Coast Vineyard sits just south of the town of Annapolis at 800-1000 feet above sea level. The soils at this ridge-top site are well-drained Goldridge sandy loam, which helps to intensify the sense of minerality and focus in the wines produced from this vineyard.

Wine Details:
Oak: 100% French oak, 37% new
Time in oak: 16 months

Tasting Notes

This vintage of the Far Coast Vineyard Chardonnay exhibits aromas of orange zest, yellow apple, dried fruits and spice. The flavors lead with tangerine, mandarin orange and quince, followed by a long textural finish of minerals and gravel.

Ratings & Reviews

96 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"Chassagne-Montrachet-like notes of white flowers, crushed chalk, toasted brioche, honeyed orchard fruits, and a liquid rock-like minerality all emerge from the 2017 Chardonnay Far Coast Vineyard. A beautifully balanced, elegant white from this estate, it builds on the palate, showing a distinct salinity, medium to full-bodied richness, bright acidity, and a great, clean, blockbuster styled finish. This is pure class and just a complete, gorgeous Chardonnay to enjoy over the coming 7-8 years or more." - Jeb Dunnuck (5/21/2020)

94+ Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2017 Chardonnay Far Coast Vineyard leaps from the glass with vivacious lemon curd, key lime pie and fresh grapefruit scents plus wafts of honeysuckle, mandarin peel, struck flint and fresh ginger. Medium-bodied, the palate is packed with zip and zing, delivering layer upon layer of citrus and mineral notions, finishing on an enticing tropical fruit note. 326 cases were made." - Lisa Perrotti-Brown (13th Feb 2020)

93 Points - Vinous:
"The 2017 Chardonnay Far Coast Vineyard balances nervy tension with a good deal of mid-palate richness. White flowers, mint and white pepper add a brilliant upper register that gives the wine a feeling of energy and vibrancy. " - Antonio Galloni (Apr 2020)

92 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"Features a pure-tasting core of freshly cut Asian pear and Gala apple flavors, flanked by richly spiced honey accents. Salted almond and lemon curd hints show on the plush finish. Drink now through 2024. 326 cases made." - KM
