About the Wine:
This invariably highly priced excellent Tuscan wine originates from a somewhat warmer zone around the Mediterranean, but is aromatic and wonderfully fresh. Notes of juicy blackcurrant, cedar wood and wild forest strawberries, mixed with delicate nuanced of rosemary and pepper, can be discerned. Beautifully balanced and harmonic, with a silky soft and complex structure. A perfect marriage of international sorts of Cabernet and Merlot with the local Sangiovese wine. A great wine of the Maremma region.

Ratings & Reviews

96 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The first word that comes to mind when describing this wine is seamless. The 2013 Bolgheri Superiore Grattamacco offers a generous and forthcoming succession of dark fruit and spice-driven flavors that fit together like a long chain of pearls on a necklace. It's impossible to taste where one flavor starts and the next one ends. That balanced and harmonious approach is evident in the mouth where it offers a silky, smooth and long textural impression. I suggest another few years of bottle aging before popping the cork on this beautiful blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 15% Sangiovese. This is no doubt the best wine from Grattamacco tasted in the past decade." -Monica Larner (Oct 2016)

94+ Points - Antonio Galloni:
"A huge, expansive wine, the 2013 Grattamacco exudes power. The Cabernet Sauvignon speaks with an especially assertive voice in both the wine's flavor profile and overall structure. Sweet herb, menthol, licorice and leather overtones meld into a core of dark fruit as the wine continues to gain breadth in the glass. Beams of supporting acidity and tannin add backbone as well as energy. The 2013 is an impressive Grattamacco. It is also likely to require at least a few years in bottle." (Nov 2016)

94 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"Impressive, offering ripe, fading cherry and plum fruit, salty licorice, leather, herb and spice aromas and flavors. Hangs together nicely, with layers of flavor unfolding through the long finish. Shows terrific length and plenty of grip for aging. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese. Drink now through 2027. 6,000 cases made." - BS (2017)

93 Points - James Suckling:
"I like the softness and freshness to this with medium body, silky tannins and a fruity and lemony undertone. Bright finish. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and sangiovese. Why wait?" (Jul 2016)
