Notes from the Winemaker:
Aromas of pear and honeysuckle perfume the bouquet. This is a beautifully balanced champagne with a long, expressive finish. Gosset only uses juice from the first and best pressing of grapes, and unlike most other producers, initial fermentation is still carried out in small oak barrels. Riddling and disgorgement are performed by hand. Significantly, and in contrast to virtually all other houses, Gosset Champagnes do not undergo a malolactic fermentation, resulting in a heightened acidity, slower maturing wines and that inimitable Gosset style - powerful and full-bodied, of unrivaled richness and staying power - in other words, some of the world's most legendary Champagne.

IN THE GLASS:
Pale gold/yellow in colour, light, limpid and crystalline, fizzing with thousands of bubbles.

ON THE NOSE:
An open and expressive nose, with rich flavours of plump, ripe yellow stone fruit such as apricots or peaches or even dried fruit (almonds).

ON THE PALATE:
From the first sip the palate is rich, rounded and powerful. It shows a lovely development with a soft freshness combined.

FOOD PAIRING:
Perfect as a refreshing accompaniment to simple grilled meat dishes in the summer heat. The light salty tang on the champagne's finish reflects wonderfully with crisp, pan-fried garden vegetables, cooked and seasoned à la Passard ...

Ratings & Reviews

93 Points - Antonio Galloni's Vinous Media:
(made with fruit that was sourced from 15 different premier and grand cru sites in the Cote de Blancs and Montagne de Reims; aged for four years on its lees before disgorgement; L1336121): Vivid yellow. Powerful, mineral-accented orchard fruits and Meyer lemon the nose, with a sexy floral nuance adding complexity. Stains the palate with concentrated pear, melon and lemon curd flavors, with a smoky, leesy quality building with aeration. Surprisingly lively for its depth of flavor thanks to bright, nervy acidity and a chalky quality. Closes long and toasty, with excellent clarity and lift. - Josh Reynolds (Dec, 2013)

92 Points - Wine Spectator:
Refined and creamy, with delicate acidity that finds fine balance with the layers of poached apple and pear, lemon cake, ground ginger, smoke and almond cream flavors. Very elegant. Drink now through 2020. 28,000 cases made. –AN (Dec 31st, 2011)

90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The NV Brut Excellence is a terrific effort at this level. A fragrant, open bouquet leads to deep, layered core of fruit. The wine shows gorgeous complexity, nuance and a multi-dimensional personality that is simply compelling. The Brut Excellence is 45% Pinot Noir, 13% Pinot Meunier and 42% Chardonnay. The significant presence of red grapes gives the wine much of its breadth and richness on the palate. This is Lot # L745-1422, disgorged 1st week of December, 2008. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2014."

90 Points - Wine & Spirits:
"A robust and classically styled Champagne, this is rich and creamy in the middle, braced by steely acidity. It feels clean and polished, a fragrant wine for plump littleneck clams."

90 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"Tense and crisp, this is a balanced food-friendly Champagne. It is dry, and its apple- and citrus-like acidity has rounded out with some bottle age. The acidity cuts right through to give the wine a great lift of freshness on the finish." - (9/1/2012)
