About the Winery:
The Ghost Block vineyard, named in honor of the historic Pioneer Cemetery for which it borders, is nestled on a gently sloping knoll on the north edge of Yountville. This highly sought after vineyard is composed of 18 acres of unique, rarely found, exposed vertical bedding of tertiary volcanics. It is southeast facing, receiving mid-morning and afternoon sun and cooling in the evening and early morning with down valley marine influence. Planted solely to Cabernet Sauvignon it is 100% certified organic and the crown jewel of the family’s 635 planted acres.
The superstar consulting winemaker of this wine is Rob Lawson, who is well-known for having crafted "cult" wine labels such as Pahlmeyer, Bryant Family, Harlan, Blankiet, Staglin, Marcassin, Turley and Showket. He has been fortunate to work alongside some of the most respected winemakers in the valley, such as Helen Turley, Paul Hobbs, Pam Starr and Heidi Barrett. Rob seeks to capture the true varietal and regional character of Napa Cab by pairing New World technology with traditional techniques to create wines that are both fruit-driven, and robust in flavor and texture.
About this Wine:
Very elegant and appealing aromas beam from your glass. This wine has juicy red cherry notes, along with ripe, red berry flavors. Cocoa and vanilla notes are well integrated into the fruit components. The silky, soft tannins confirm the harmonious balance between alcohol and tannin—creating an overall perfect balance in this wine. The finish is lengthy and beautiful, you won’t want to stop sipping on this 2017 Oakville cabernet.

Ratings & Reviews
94 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"Features some frank, nearly heady ripeness, with steeped plum, acai berry and blackberry compote flavors bursting forth, followed quickly by bramble and licorice snap notes. The finish delivers a late kick of fruit and pulls in a mouthwatering apple wood accent. For fans of the big, bold style. Best from 2021 through 2034." - JM (July 2020)
94 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"Entirely varietal, this bold red is herbal and earthy, brimming in cedar, clove and blue fruit. Robust and hearty, it has a graceful undercurrent of freshness and lively acidity, providing a seamless, structured experience of length and elegance." - Virginia Boone
91 Points - Wine Advocate:
"Deep garnet-purple in color, the 1017 Cabernet Sauvignon Ghost Block Vineyard reveals notes of stewed black and red cherries, redcurrant jelly and blackberry pie with hints of Chinese five spice and garrigue. The medium to full-bodied palate is packed with juicy black and red berry flavors, framed by plush tannins and tons of freshness, finishing spicy." - LPB (Oct 2020)
