About This Wine: This experimental cuvee represents the essence of Michel Gassier's work as a winemaker. A blend of Mourvedre, Grenache, and Syrah from select parcels of old vines. Following a manual harvest with double sorting and 100% de-stemming, the wine undergoes long maceration and manual punch-downs as well as malolactic fermentation in barrel. It is then aged 12-18 months in French oak barrels.

It is almost black in color, with a powerful and extremely complex bouquet with aromas of dark berries, spices, eucalyptus and vanilla. Rich and velvety without being heavy, this wine finishes with flavors of fresh fruit and ripe tannins.

Ratings & Reviews

:

92-94 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2010 Costieres de Nimes Chateau de Nages Lou Coucardie is somewhat of an experimental cuvee launched a few years ago by Michel Gassier and his consultant, Philippe Cambie. It is a selection of very old vines and is a blend of 60% Mourvedre, 30% Grenache and 10% Syrah. The wine is aged in small barrels, of which 50% are new. Its black/purple color is accompanied by notes of mint, blueberry and blackberry liqueur, incense, camphor and charcoal. This amazing tour de force should age nicely for 10+ years." - Robert Parker (Oct 2011)

90 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine
"Fleshy and full-bodied, with dark mocha, roasted alder and steeped plum and blackberry flavors all entwined. The mocha edge lingers through the broad, dark finish. Mourvedre, Grenache and Syrah. Drink now through 2015. 650 cases made." - JM (web only 2013)
