About the Winery:
Owner Sergio Marchetti belongs to an old patriarchal family of the 18th century. The family's descendants have lived and farmed on this land for generations. In the 1980s, the owner of the lands gifted Fossacolle to the family when he sold the properties. Fossacolle is four hectares of vineyards in the medieval town of Tavernelle in southern Montalcino. This area benefits from the wind of nearby Maremma which creates a perfect climate to grow and to mature grapes. Sergio and his family manage the vineyards and his son-in-law, Adriano Bambagioni, with the help of his son Stefano, carry out all the enological and commercial aspects of Fossacolle.

Tasting Notes:
Of intense ruby color, our Brunello shows on the palate alluring aromas of very ripe red berries and delicate spices, while the full body is gratifying and persistent, with outstanding minerality. Remarkable tannins, soft and creamy in texture, confer concentration and aging potential to this wine, a real Cru of great distinctiveness.

Ratings & Reviews

93 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"Boasting a dark and rich color, the 2012 Brunello di Montalcino is a youthful and bright expression that still has a ways to go in terms of its evolution. The wine shows loads of primary fruit at the moment with dark fruit, cherry and black currant at the front line. The Brunello offers smoothness and softness on the palate but you also get a bright and tangy touch of that Sangiovese acidity that reminds you of the appellation's most valuable assets." - Monica Larner (Feb 2017)

92 Points - Vinous Media:
"Good full red Complex aromas of red cherry, raspberry, minerals and medicinal herbs Bright, dense and juicy, with a multilayered quality to the delicately spicy red fruit flavors Finishes long and tactile with youthfully chewy tannins and repeating hints of herbs Serious Brunello that will repay laying down." - Ian D'Agata (Mar 2017)

92 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"This opens with underbrush, sun-baked earth, spiced plum and espresso aromas. On the taut, full-bodied palate, licorice, clove and grilled herb notes accent a core of black cherry and crushed raspberry fruit. Tightly knit, fine-grained tannins suggest ageing potential. Drink 2020-2028." - Kerin O'Keefe (4/1/2017)

92 Points - James Suckling:
"Aromas of mushrooms, rose petals and strawberries follow through to a full body and soft and juicy tannins that have an big presence. Needs time in the bottle to come together. Try in 2020." (February 20, 2017)
