About the Wine:
Made solely from Sangiovese, it has clarity in both the glass and on the nose. With a lifted dark cherry fragrance yielding to intense yet elegant fruit on the palate, this wine finds everything nicely supported by fine, grainy tannins.
Lamole is a small village to the east of Chianti Classico appellation, with sandy soils at 620 m asl, giving wines that are scented and elegant.
Ratings & Reviews
94 Points - James Suckling:
"I love the freshness to this red that shows citrus, violets, fresh herbs and lavender. Driven and very tangy with angular, cutthroat acidity and a zippy finish. Delicious and an amazing food wine. Drink now." - (24 Apr, 2019)
92 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"A touch of new oak lends spice notes to the mix of cherry, berry, tobacco and wild herb flavors. Densely wrought, with the tannins leaving a resonant tactile sensation as this plays out on the long finish. Balanced, but will need a little time to soften and harmonize. Best from 2021 through 2040. 3,200 cases made, 670 cases imported." - BS
92 Points - Decanter:
"The 2016 growing season was cooler than 2015, resulting in a long, slow ripening and a later harvest. After finishing picking the Fontodi vineyards, Giovanni Manetti harvested this higher altitude plot in Lamole between 14 and 16 October. Earthy rather than fruit-driven, this wine gradually reveals cranberry bush, wild red currants and rosepetal aromas. While the frame is lean, the fine, chalky tannins build to support the sinewy fruit. A more angular expression than Fontodi but really should be appreciated in its own right. Drinking Window 2020 - 2030" - Michaela Morris (10 Feb 2019)
91 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2016 Chianti Classico Filetta di Lamole is a beautifully intense and direct expression that delivers a full bouquet of rich primary fruit with direct confidence and extreme precision. The wine is tight and streamlined with cooling fruit flavors of wild berry, cassis and sour cherry backed by linear mineral notes of crushed stone and flint. It is lightweight in terms of consistency with a fine and elegant close. Filetta di Lamole shows a slightly wild or untamed character within the greater Fontodi house style. The fruit comes from the cool-climate, high-altitude Lamole subregion (with vines planted at 600 meters above sea level), and this explains the wine's fragile and finely knit approach." - Monica Larner (31st Jul 2019)
91 Points - Vinous:
"The 2016 Chianti Classico Filetta di Lamole is terrific. In this vintage, Filetta di Lamole is especially deep, certainly moreso than the first two vintages. At the same time, the 2016 shows all the signatures that are typical of this cool-climate site, with plenty of game, sage, licorice, menthol and spice overtones that add character to a core of dark blue/purplish berry fruit. " Antonio Galloni - (Aug 2019)
