Notes from the Winemaker:

Our flagship wine is full and rich and utterly even across the palate: side-to-side and front-to-back. The Bordeaux Blend, Napa-Style, is made of the best we have. Aromas of ripe black cherry and subtle hints of violets introduce this seductive left-bank Cabernet blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot. The mid-palate is big and round with a soft cherry-vanilla elegance. Natural acidity creates perfect balance and an extremely long finish. This wine is made to be enjoyed in its youth and will age gracefully for decades to come.

The mountain vineyards (Howell Mountain, Mount Veeder) share a common denominator in structure – big firm shoulders, masculine tannins, but individual characteristics. Howell Mountain, at 2000ft, on the east side of Napa Valley, has extreme exposure, larger temperature swings, and volcanic soil, creating very firm tannins. Mount Veeder has geologically churned volcanic and ocean-floor soil and the vineyard is nestled in a dense wild forest, which contributes exotic aromatics of menthol and spice in a slightly more refined interplay. Calistoga vineyards are hotter and earlier to ripen, which provides the mid-palate lushness of glycerin and a higher alcohol.

Ratings & Reviews

96 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"Foley’s top wine is the inky/purple-colored 2012 Claret, a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot. It ratchets up the level of concentration, offering a big, sweet bouquet of white chocolate, smoky oak, espresso beans, licorice, forest floor, blackberries and cassis. Viscous and thick with oodles of fruit and glycerin, and a long, dense, 50-second finish, this is a killer expression of primarily Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2012 should drink well for 12-15 years." - Robert M. Parker, Jr. (Oct 2014)

92 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:

"Sleek and polished, with a touch of hazelnut- and espresso-scented oak and forest floor nuances woven amid the dusty black berry, gravel and savory notes. Ends with fine-grained tannins and good length. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2027. 600 cases made. " – JL (Oct 31, 2015)
