Notes from the Winemaker:
The result of an accurate selection of grapes from the Einaudi vineyard at Vigna Terlo in Barolo. A grand wine of the Langa, garnet red with a shade of amber, of intense and embracing fragrance, full bodied but smooth tannic taste, with a long spicy finish. Matured, first in casks of 30 hl. made of Slavic oak and of French Allier , then bottled for the final refinement.

A wine of great class which ages well, of a brilliant garnet red with distinctive orange tinges which intensify with age; of an intense and persistent fragrance, of full austere and velvety flavour, rightly tannic, with a lingering “goudron” and spicy final taste. Derived from the Nebbiolo grapes from the Costa Grimaldi vineyard owned by the Einaudi estate, facing Barolo in the Terlo area. The alcohol content is between 13.5 and 14.5% vol. with tannic characteristics which guarantee a life in bottle of up to 25-30 years in the best years. With time it acquires complexity as the ethereal aromas of spices, truffles and leather substitute the fruitiness of the first years of its life.

Ratings & Reviews

93 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2011 Barolo Terlo Vigna Costa Grimaldi is a tightly wound ball of muscle, power and determination. I love the masculine intensity offered by this wine. It also shows inner harmony and a delightful level of complexity with an exciting assembly of spicy fruit and balsam herb aromas. The tannins are firm and polished but still need time to soften." - Monica Larner (May 4th, 2015)

93 Points - Antonio Galloni's Vinous Media:
"The 2011 Barolo Terlo Vigna Costa Grimaldi is the most complete of the wines in this range, largely the result of this site's slightly shelted exposure, something that is always an asset in warmer years. Expressive aromatic overtones add lift and precision to a core of pliant, racy fruit in a Barolo that captures the best qualities of the vintage while retaining plenty of poise. Dark red stone fruits, cherry pit, menthol and cinnamon are some of the many notes that are laced into the enticing finish. The Costa Grimaldi is quite a bit deeper and darker than the straight Terlo, but it also has a bit more nuance and better overall balance." - AG (Mar 2015)

92 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Round and smooth, with cherry, raspberry and black pepper notes, framed by vibrant acidity and energetic tannins. Stays focused and long on the spice- and tobacco-laced aftertaste. Best from 2018 through 2033. 725 cases made." - BS (Sep 30th, 2015)

92 Points - James Suckling:
"A soft and silky red with plum, light chocolate and mineral character. Full body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Plum and orange peel undertones. Better in 2017."

91 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"Taut and tense, this opens with aromas of red berry, crushed herb, clove and whiff of menthol. The firm, tightly wound palate offers bright cherry, licorice and ground black pepper alongside assertive tannins and nervous acidity. Give this time to unwind and fully develop. Drink 2019–2031." - Kerin O'Keefe (Feb 1st, 2016)
