About the Winery:
Founded in 1996, DuMOL is a vineyard focused producer of cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from distinctive vineyards in the extreme southwestern part of the Russian River Valley. They also grow and craft small-lot Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Viognier from exceptional vineyard sites in Sonoma and Napa, expanding upon twenty-five years of winegrowing experience. DuMOL's 25 acre sustainably farmed Estate Vineyard is located on an undulating east-facing slope of one of the appellation's famous ridgelines. From this classic site and in tandem with some of the coastal area's finest growers, DuMOL crafts wines that fully capture the aromatics, flavors and textures that exemplify their vineyard sites and varietals character in the purest and most precise form.

Notes from the Winemaker:
Our 2021 Chloe Chardonnay continues the theme started in 2019 – a focus upon central Russian River Valley vineyards grown on lean red gravelly soils on the east bank of the Russian River itself. These neighboring sites - Flora Marie & El Diablo - naturally produce rich broad wines with power and concentration. It’s important to harvest them quite early before the character becomes too exotic. We underpin this richness with a high acidity citrus-driven block from our coastal Bressay Estate which adds length and precision to the final blend. The combination is immediately expressive with power, breadth and chewy depth, yet bristles with energy and freshness. This is the designate Chardonnay to open first for its early pleasure, while waiting for the sharper coastal wines to find their pace.

Ratings and Reviews:

96 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"Pouring a bright medium yellow/straw hue, the 2021 Chardonnay Chloe is highly expressive, with a golden perfume of pineapple, orange oil, and a bit of honeysuckle. It has full body and a rounded texture, with ripe apricot, hazelnut, and white flowers. A lusher personality to drink over the next ten years, it’s a bit more open at this youthful stage." (Jul 2023)

95 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"Balanced to a T, this fascinating wine matches ripe and rich poached pear and golden apple flavors with a vein of lemony acidity that keeps it refreshing sip after sip. It's medium to full in body. Best through 2030." - Jim Gordon (Oct 2023)

94 Points - Wine Advocate:
"The 2021 Chardonnay Chloe is scented of white peach, jasmine, meringue and toasted almonds with flinty streaks. The light-bodied palate has a gently grippy texture and refreshing acidity to balance its concentrated core of spicy stone fruit, and it has a long finish full of ripe fruit." - Erin Brooks (Jun 2023)

94 Points - The Wine Independent:
"The nose on the 2021 Chardonnay Chloe already delivers fabulous complexity, with notes of orange blossom, cashews, baker's yeast, and honeycomb, opening out to a flamboyant core of apricots, honeydew melon, spiced apples, and juicy pears. The medium to full-bodied palate vibrates with impactful stone fruit and spicy flavors, framed by a racy backbone and a creaminess to the texture, finishing very long and opulent. This is a blend of 3 vineyards, El Diablo (Eastside Vineyard), Flora Marie (right next door), and a block from the Bressay vineyard. Only 50 barrels are made, with 1/3 new oak. pH 3.48, ABV 14.1%, 1,234 cases made." - LPB (Jul 2023)

94 Points - James Suckling:
"The purity of fruit strikes you here with sliced apple, pineapple, and some peach. Medium to full body. Pointed finish. Some flint and steel undertones. Goes tight at the end. Tensioned. Give it a year or two to come around. Drink or hold." (Mar 2023)

93-95 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2021 Chardonnay Chloe is a powerful, dense wine that is going to need time to come around. Lemon confit, dried herbs, menthol, spice and chamomile all take shape, gradually, in this potent Chardonnay. The Chloe is a blend of fruit from El Diablo and Flora Marie, plus friut from the Estate. This deep, phenolic Chardonnay has a ton to offer." - Antonio Galloni (Aug 2023)

93 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Elegant, with up-front ripe peach, apricot and mango notes giving way to elegant, supple buttered brioche. Shows generous accents of spices, salted and toasted hazelnut and a touch of peach blossoms. Drink now. 1,200 cases made." - MW (Dec 2023)
