Notes from the Winemaker:
The Blain-Gagnard Family is a veritable winemaking dynasty in Chassagne-Montrachet, responsible for some of the most highly regarded and allocated Burgundies in the US market. Today, while the youngest generation continues their legacy in Chassagne, siblings Marc Antonin and Lucie Blain have started a new project in Beaujolais - Domaine Blain.

Cote de Brouilly Les Jumeaux is from 3.7 acres of vines planted in 1954, 1956, and 1996 in the climat of Pont des Samsons. The vineyard sits midway up the slope of Mont Brouilly where they grow in a unique soil of blue granite, pink clay, and sand (reminiscent of the Morgon appellation). Marc-Antonin uses up to 30% whole bunches with "Burgundian" fermentation for 20 days then aged in large wooden tanks ten months.

Tasting Notes: Les Jumeaux is Marc-Antonin's favorite of his three Beaujolais wines, He said, "It is attractive when young but has potential to age. Les Jumeaux has more power, structure, and length than the Pierre Bleue, yet is very gentle and velvety."

Food Pairing: Gamay has low tannins and refreshing acidity, making it an ideal red wine partner with dark fish such as grilled salmon or tuna. It can also be an excellent contrast to foods that are oily, fatty, or high in salt, such as saucisson sec or roasted meat. It is at home with classic bistro fare such as roast chicken or steak frites.

Reviews and Ratings

92 Points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous:
"Brilliant ruby. Juicy, sharply focused red/blue fruit and lavender pastille aromas show impressive energy and pick up a mineral accent with air. Vivacious raspberry and boysenberry flavors show excellent clarity and a refreshingly delicate touch. Pure and nervy in style, with firm closing bite, repeating blue fruit and floral qualities and silky tannins coming on late." - Josh Raynolds (March 2018)

91 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Shows elegance and purity to the cherry and currant notes, flanked by mineral, Earl Grey tea, licorice and forest floor aromas in this light-bodied red. Savory spice, wood spice and pomegranate details echo on the long, lightly tannic finish. Drink now through 2023. 550 cases made, 242 cases imported." - G.S. (April 2019)
