About the Wine:
Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Roncière 1er cru lies in the “Zone de Saint-Georges” or central section of Nuits-Saint-Georges near the town itself. Roncière takes its name because the soil is so poor that it is said only “ronces” (mulberries) can grow there. It is produced from a 0.5-hectare parcel from vines planted in 1959.

Tasting Notes:
The wine shows aromas and flavors of red berries, herbs, and purple flowers. The palate is rich with ripe fruit and medium weight with bright acidity and fine tannins. Aging in 30-60% new Burgundian pièce brings notes of vanilla, toast, and baking spices.

Food Pairing:
Red Burgundy might be the world’s most flexible food wine. The wine’s high acidity, medium body, medium alcohol, and low tannins make it very food-friendly. Red Burgundy, with its earthy and sometimes gamey character, is a classic partner to roasted game birds, grilled duck breast, and dishes that feature mushrooms, black truffles, or are rich in umami.

Ratings & Reviews

95 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"Silky and expressive, this red delivers cherry, currant, licorice, mineral and spice flavors, matched to a firm, well-balanced structure. The lasting impression is of sweet fruit and spice. Offers an invigorating finish. Best from 2022 through 2034. 73 cases imported." – BS (5/2018)

91-93 Points - Allen Meadows' Burghound:
"As it should, this presently has an entirely different aromatic profile with its ripe and fresh combination of earth and sauvage characters together with both red and dark currant scents. Here too there is really lovely mouth feel to the tautly muscular flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the energetic, detailed and beautifully persistent finish. This is also admirably seamless and should amply reward extended keeping." - (1/2017)

90-92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Roncière, aged in 25% new wood, offers an exuberant bouquet of macerated red cherries, orange zest and a touch of quince. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a little compact on the entry and later, gently fanning out with a judicious touch of spice on the finish. Unlike the Aux Lavières, it will require 2-3 years in bottle, but it will be worth waiting for." - Neal Martin (12/2016)

91 Points - Antonio Galloni's Vinous:
"The 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Roncières 1er Cru has a rather smudged bouquet and plenty of red fruit but little delineation and overly dominant oak. The palate is chewy on the entry. Quite a rustic-styled Nuits Saint-Georges, with good matière if little in the way of finesse on the finish. Maybe time will allow it to become more sophisticated. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting." - Neal Martin (11/2018)
