About the Domaine:
Bonneau du Martray is one of only a few estates in all of Burgundy to produce solely Grand Cru wines.

The domaine’s 9.5 hectares of Charlemagne are planted high on the hillside, where the soil contains more clay than limestone and is more suitable for white grapes. The average age of the vines is around 45 years and yields are kept very low. The domaine is unique in its west and southwest-facing orientation, which guarantees long, slow maturation of the grapes.

About this Wine:

The vineyard runs from top to bottom of the hill, where different types of limestone make up a mosaic of soil. Each parcel has its own character, as the parcels at the foot of the forest on the top of the hill give the wine a crystalline appearance, with floral and citrus fruit notes. The vines in the heart of the hill structure the wine and bring grain to it, while the parcels at the bottom of the hill, richer in minerals, bring the power of Charlemagne. The vines facing west are exposed to the sun from mid-morning until sunset, a unique feature in Burgundy. The air circulation caused by the neighboring hills ventilates the vineyard and preserves the freshness of the grape.

Ratings & Reviews

95-97 Points – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate:
“The approximate blend of the 2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is very promising, offering up notes of orange oil, white flowers, nutmeg and pear, followed by a full-bodied, layered and concentrated palate that's lively and elegantly textural, concluding with a long, penetrating finish. This is a very promising effort from the Domaine Bonneau du Martray team, and I look forward to revisiting the wine in bottle.” – William Kelley (1/2021)

92-94 Points – Allen Meadows’ Burghound:
“A markedly ripe yet appealingly fresh nose openly expresses its aromas of apple compote, lemon zest, petrol and a floral top note. The exceptionally intense and beautifully detailed medium weight plus flavors exude ample minerality on the powerful yet refined finish where the only nit is a touch of warmth. I very much like the texture, and this clearly possesses fine development potential.” (6/10/2021)
