About the Winery:
Born in the Nievre, where Burgundy meets the Loire Valley, Didier Dagueneau was the fourth generation in a family of winegrowers. Influenced by wine legend Henri Jayer of Burgundy, his grandfather Louis Dagueneau, Andre Chabanne of Pouilly-sur-Loire, enologist Denis Dubourdieux of Bordeaux, and Professor Renaud of the Pasteur Institut in Paris, Didier quickly found his own style. By fusing modern winemaking with ultra-traditional methods of vineyard management, he was able to realize the ultimate expression of terroir and technique. Today the estate is run by fifth generation Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau, who took over following the untimely passing of his father Didier in 2008.

About the Wine:
Upon visiting Jurançon at the foot of the Pyrenees south of Pau, just outside the village of Aubertin, Didier Dagueneau found a few hectares located in a natural amphitheatre facing a spectacular panorama of mountains. He was reminded of the story of The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, considered one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world, and thus Dagueneau's Jardins de Babylone label was born. Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau took over his father's work and produces a unique dry Jurançon qualified in wine of France.
Unlike the other Jurançons, produced from petit and gros manseng and courbu, the Dagueneau wines add two local grape varieties which are at the heart of the blend, bringing fullness and spicy notes.
Varietal Composition: Petit Et Gros Manseng, Courbu, Camaralet, Lauzet

Viticulture
Vineyard:
Natural amphitheatre of vines at the foot of the Pyrenees near the village of Aubertin. Farmed biodynamically. Didier asked his machinist friend to integrate a few small, lightweight tractors to work in the terraced vineyard, and he installed his lifetime friend and associate Guy as the vineyard manager
Vinification:
Barrel fermented
Ageing:
Aged mostly in 450 and 600 liter barrels, as well as some of Dagueneau's famous cigar-shaped barrels. Designed by the late Didier, these barrels are 350 liters and aggressively elongated.

‘Les Jardins de Babylone Sec’ is a rare and mesmerizing dry blend of the SW’s five permitted white grape varieties. Notes of juicy yellow fruit, crushed rocks, and gunflint lead to a persistent, citrus-driven acidity.
