Red wines of this period were made in the first-growth Bordeaux style, blending a diversity of sites together to create complex wines with the structure, freshness, and balance to age for decades.

Winemaker Maura Johnson assembles the ONDA Cabernet Sauvignon from carefully selected vineyard sites across Napa Valley. Each component of the blend brings a distinctive tone and texture, creating wines of exquisite harmony and resonance. These complex wines celebrate the tempo of the vintage and the precision of the composer.

About the Vintage:
The 2022 vintage was marked by relatively dry conditions, with less than two-thirds of the usual rainfall during winter and early spring. Notably, most of the rain fell before the year began, bringing a welcome end to three years of drought. Despite near-perfect conditions for flowering and berry set, the dry conditions of the previous years resulted in a smaller than average crop in 2022. A warm spring led to early budbreak in late March. By the end of April, warm sunny weather arrived and persisted through May, allowing vine growth to progress steadily. As summer advanced, temperatures in June and July climbed and ripening continued steadily through the end of August. Early September brought a significant heatwave, accelerating ripening and pushing harvest into full swing at earlier-ripening sites. Fortunately, the moderate winter rains had set up the vines to endure the warm vintage, ultimately producing wines with intense ripe flavors and round, balanced tannins.

Tasting Notes:
The 2022 ONDA Cabernet Sauvignon opens with lively aromatics of wild blueberries, fresh bramble, and exotic florals, unfolding into deeper notes of dried Italian herbs and subtle oak spice. On the palate, a plush entry reveals vibrant black cherries and ripe raspberries. Silky, polished tannins create a seamless texture. Hints of graphite weave through the mid-palate, adding an earthy counterpoint to the wine’s freshness. A balanced interplay of oak and acidity lends precision and length, while the medium body keeps the profile elegant and approachable. The finish is lively and juicy, with lingering impressions of wet stone minerality and fresh acidity. Expressive from the start, the 2022 ONDA provides immediate charm and promises graceful evolution in the cellar.

Ratings and Reviews

96 Points - James Suckling:
"Blueberry, blackberry, crushed stone, mussel shell and iodine aromas follow through to a medium body with rather subtle fruit and a juicy finish. It's full-bodied, has a broad, layered mouthfeel, and ripe tannins, all making for an incredibly successful 2022 to enjoy over the coming 10-12 years or more. As always, this cuvée is a blend of multiple sites, and while it might not have the singular character of the single vineyards, it certainly plays in the same ballpark quality-wise. A rush of black cherry, plum, blood orange, incense and spice lends notable up-front appeal. This opulent, inviting Cabernet Sauvignon from Dana is terrific.
