Notes from the Winemaker:
All Fontodi wines are produced from grapes coming from their own vineyards, picked by hand, chosen with care and vinified in a way that exalts the character of the vines and the territory. The Fontodi Oil “Bio” is produced from its own olives which are delicately pressed the same day as the harvest in order to preserve all the freshness and the fragrance of the fruit.

Ratings & Reviews

96 Points - Luca Gardini:
"The usual excellence in this single-varietal Sangiovese that discovers great elegance by Fontodi, being a step ahead thanks to a blessed vintage. The fresh nose displays red cherries and raspberry, with officinal scents from citrus thyme. The mouthfeel is backed by a nice acidity. Salty tannins. Firm and incisive. Persistent.” (04/21)

95 Points - James Suckling:
"A perfumed nose of redcurrants, sour cherries, bay leaves and spices. Medium-bodied with chewy tannins. Dusty texture in the mouth with structure and a bright core of red fruit. Flavorful, ample and tannic finish with length. So serious. From organically grown grapes. Drinkable but better in 2023." (Aug 2021)

94 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2018 Chianti Classico Fontodi marries the natural concentration of Panzano with the greater vibrancy and energy that are such signatures here in recent years. Dark cherry, plum, graphite, leather, licorice and mocha build effortlessly in the glass. Deep and pliant, with superb integrity and purity, the 2018 is a Rockstar wine and a real standout in its peer group, which is not that of all Chianti Classicos, but of the best wines in the entire appellation." -Antonio Galloni (Sep 2021)

92 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Pretty cherry, raspberry, iron, tar and smoke flavors are the hallmarks of this supple Chianti Classico, which is balanced and firms up nicely on the finish. Drink now through 2030. 10,000 cases made, 3,000 cases imported." - BS (Oct 2021)

92 Points - Decanter Magazine:
"April's frost resulted in less productive vines. Giovanni Manetti saw this as an advantage in the drought-like conditions of summer. He explains that with fewer grapes, the vines suffered less stress and were able to continue ripening without shutting down. Initial scents of baked clay and dry earth make way for mint blossom and cherry. Clingy, muscular tannins wrap around dusty fruit with nuances of rust and cinnamon poking through and the acidity is remarkably racy and ripe." - MM (Feb 2020)

92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The organic 2018 Chianti Classico opens to a medium dark color and delivers a steady succession of bright berry and cherry aromas. This is a fresh and punchy wine that gives us a clean and a classic interpretation of this denomination. This wine, with 150,000 bottles produced, delivers on all the basics of Chianti Classico. It ages in oak for 18 months, with six of those months in French barrique." - Monica Larner (Oct 7th 2021)
